Dress Code

Appropriate traditional attire is expected at Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple as a mark of respect to the deity.

Important

Traditional dress is mandatory for entering the main sanctum (Garbhagriha) and for special darshans. Devotees in western attire may be restricted to outer prakarams only.

For Men

Recommended

  • Dhoti (Veshti)

    Traditional white or colored dhoti, preferably with angavastram

  • Panchakacham

    Traditional 5-fold dhoti style for special occasions

  • Kurta with Dhoti

    Simple kurta or shirt with dhoti

  • Formal Pants with Shirt

    Allowed but traditional dress preferred for main sannidhis

Not Allowed

  • Shorts

    Not allowed inside temple premises

  • Sleeveless shirts

    Shoulders must be covered

  • Torn or revealing clothes

    Respectful attire required

  • Leather belts/accessories

    Avoid leather items inside main sanctum

For Women

Recommended

  • Saree

    Traditional saree is most appropriate

  • Half-saree (Pavadai Dhavani)

    Traditional South Indian attire

  • Salwar Kameez

    With dupatta covering shoulders

  • Churidar with Long Kurta

    Modest and comfortable option

Not Allowed

  • Jeans/Western wear

    Traditional attire preferred for main darshan

  • Sleeveless tops

    Shoulders must be covered

  • Short skirts/dresses

    Clothes must be below knee level

  • Transparent/tight clothing

    Modest attire required

Vaikunta Ekadasi

Pure white traditional attire recommended

Many devotees observe fast and wear fresh white clothes

Brahmotsavam

Traditional festival attire

Colorful traditional clothes for festive atmosphere

Special Sevas

Panchakacham (men), Madisar (married women)

Traditional dress required for some sevas like Thirumanjanam

General Rules

  • Remove footwear at designated areas before entering temple
  • Mobile phones should be on silent mode
  • Photography is not allowed inside the main sanctum
  • Avoid carrying leather items into the temple
  • Wash feet before entering (water facilities available)
  • Men may be asked to remove shirt for certain sevas
  • Menstruating women traditionally avoid temple visit (personal choice)

Dress Rental Available

If you don't have traditional attire, rental services are available near the temple:

  • Dhoti and Angavastram rental: Rs. 20-50
  • Available at shops near East and North gates
  • Return before leaving; security deposit may be required
